FIFA has named Hamad Al Mazrouei, a member of the UAE Football Association's Referees Committee, as the Safety & Security Officer, during the U-20 World Cup 2023 that Argentina will host on May 20- June 11.
Al Mazrouei, the first Emirati match official to take part in the AFC competitions, took up varied roles over the past few years. He managed the Dubai zone in the 2019 Asian Cup and took part in organising the 2020 AFC U23 Championship in Bangkok. He was also the Safety and Security Officer for the AFC Champions League Group C games held in Jeddah between April 27 and May 19, 2021.
