The project comes after years of development, research, and writing. Mohamed Monier created the original concept, developed the dramatic treatment, and wrote the screenplay and dialogue for a series that aims to deliver a compelling dramatic experience built around a fast-paced narrative, an engaging storyline, and emotionally resonant characters capable of connecting with a wide audience.
The story follows an ambitious young Egyptian woman who travels to Thailand to finalize a business agreement for a clothing brand franchise. What begins as a promising professional opportunity quickly turns into a nightmare when, on her return journey, she discovers that the clothing samples she is carrying have been secretly replaced with illegal narcotics without her knowledge. She is subsequently arrested at the airport and finds herself facing serious criminal charges in a foreign country, placing her future and freedom in jeopardy.
Amid this crisis, a young Egyptian man who is preparing to leave Thailand witnesses her arrest. Although he has never met her before, he becomes convinced of her innocence and decides to cancel his travel plans in order to help her uncover the truth. Together, they embark on a challenging journey that takes them deep into a world of organized crime, corruption, hidden interests, and dangerous conspiracies.
As the story unfolds, their relationship gradually develops into a powerful love story shaped by hardship, sacrifice, and resilience. The two protagonists find themselves confronting a hidden world governed not only by visible laws but also by influential criminal networks that operate across borders, opening the door to a series of adventures, investigations, emotional conflicts, and unexpected twists.
The series is built around a progressive dramatic structure that relies on sustained suspense and the gradual revelation of secrets. Beyond its crime-thriller elements, the project explores deeper themes including trust, betrayal, justice, love, sacrifice, and the human will to survive under extraordinary circumstances.
“Prisoner in Thailand” was conceived from the outset as a multi-season television project. The story is designed to continue beyond its initial thirty episodes, allowing for the expansion of characters, storylines, and dramatic worlds across future installments. The objective is to create a long-term television franchise capable of attracting audiences while drawing inspiration from successful international serialized drama formats.
According to Mohamed Monier, the project represents a distinctive addition to Arab television drama, not only because of its international setting but also because of its combination of human drama, romance, suspense, crime, and investigative storytelling within a mainstream television format aimed at a broad audience.
“Prisoner in Thailand” is not Mohamed Monier’s first dramatic writing project. Over the course of his career, he has accumulated extensive experience in drama, television production, radio drama, and audiovisual content development. Earlier in his career, he wrote the radio drama “Ramadan Al Khair,” which was broadcast by Sawt Al Arab Radio, one of the Arab world’s most prominent radio networks.
His television career also includes the writing, development, and supervision of a wide range of cultural, documentary, entertainment, and public-interest television productions. Among his notable projects are “Men Who Fulfilled Their Promise,” a 30-episode television series broadcast on Abu Dhabi TV and Emirates TV; “The Founder’s Dream,” a documentary film aired on more than twenty-three Arab television channels; and “In Love with the Quran,” a collection of thirty television films. He has also contributed to numerous television productions featuring some of the Arab world’s most recognized media personalities.
Mohamed Monier has further held leadership positions in some of the largest cultural and television projects in the Arab region. He served as General Content Supervisor for both “Prince of Poets” and “Million’s Poet,” two of the most successful and widely viewed cultural television programs in the Arab world. In these roles, he contributed to content development, creative storytelling, narrative structure, and editorial supervision across multiple seasons.
His professional experience extends into the film industry and international film festivals. He is the Founder and President of the Abu Dhabi International Environmental Film Festival, the first environmental film festival in the Middle East, which attracted participation from more than fifty-two countries. He also served as a member of the organizing committee of the Abu Dhabi International Film Festival and contributed to the development and management of initiatives related to filmmaking, visual storytelling, and cultural programming.
In addition, he has overseen content and media communications for a number of major cultural and artistic initiatives in the United Arab Emirates and has held leadership responsibilities within large-scale television and media projects. These experiences have provided him with extensive expertise in narrative development, visual storytelling, creative project management, and content strategy.
Throughout his career, Mohamed Monier has received numerous professional recognitions, including the Best Screenwriter Award from the International Radio and Television Festival in recognition of his contributions to television writing and production, in addition to several other awards in journalism, media, and content creation.
These cumulative experiences form the professional foundation upon which “Prisoner in Thailand” was developed. The project represents a natural extension of a long career in storytelling, dramatic writing, television production, and creative content development, with the ambition of delivering an Arab drama capable of combining suspense, emotional depth, and long-form storytelling within a format designed for future expansion.
Preparations for the project are currently underway, including the selection of cast members, production partners, and the technical and creative teams. The series is expected to become one of the ambitious television projects seeking to offer a distinctive dramatic experience in terms of subject matter, treatment, and narrative construction, while aspiring to reach audiences across the Arab world and beyond.
