United Arab Emirates, 27 May 2019: Faraj Fund has announced that it has successfully completed the release of 100 inmates from the UAE’s penal and correctional institutions during the Holy Month of Ramadan, as part of its strategic initiative during the Year of Tolerance, the national endeavor announced by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan which designates 2019 as the year that celebrates and promotes tolerance and co-existence.
Dr.Nasser L’Khrebani Al Nuiami, the fund’s Chairman of the Board commented, “The fund works with its partners from corporations, institutions, and individuals in the UAE enabling the fund to carry out its mission, while also raising awareness within these organizations, and promoting the values of tolerance and giving within the society. Their generous support has also enabled us to unite 100 persons with their families during the Holy Month of Ramadan”.
He added, “I would like to convey my gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE's Armed Forces, Lt. General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, all the leaders of the Ministry of Interior and Chiefs of Police across the Emirates for their continued support to Faraj Fund”.
Since its launch in 2009, the Faraj Fund has helped over 12,000 inmates in penal and correctional institutions from over 50 nationalities noted Al Nuiami. He went on to explain that the fund supports families of the incarcerated, who often find themselves in difficult economic circumstances, as they previously relied on the financial support of their provider in prison. Al Nuaimi said that up until 2018, the Faraj Fund has been able to assist nearly 2,000 Families with financial aid so that they can overcome economic burdens and continue to build their lives.
The humanitarian initiative has been launched to mark the Holy Month of Ramadan and carries on values of the UAE community such as compassion, coexistence, tolerance for individuals in need. It also takes inspiration from the Islamic Sharia and reflects the collective faith, values, and heritage of the Emirates.
