Emirates Park Zoo & Resort commemorated International Cheetah Day 2017, celebrated on 4th December, 2017 in the most unique way. Students from different school availed an opportunity to attend cheetah conservation talks hosted by the zoo educators and keepers that will now be available everyday Tuesday from 5:00 pm- 5: 15pm.
The presentation aimed to spread awareness about the dwindling cheetah population and showcased Jasper and Shazly, Emirates Park Zoo’s two cheetah residents. The students took turns to interact with them following which they perused a wall illustrated with a series of cheetah facts.
The Zoo Operations Manager of Emirates Park Zoo and Resort, Dr. Waleed Sha’aban commented, “The cheetah conservation movement is one that is close to our heart. It is an honour to be able to contribute to the cause by educating our young visitors and spreading awareness”.
December 4th has been deemed International Cheetah Day in honour of Khayam, a cheetah cub that inspired the conservation movement headed by Dr. Marker in Oregon, USA. Khayam’s birthday was chosen as a day to honour her memory and raise awareness on cheetah extermination and hunting that has been largely viewed as the primary reason behind the specie’s endangerment.
