In collaboration with the webzine "Vetrina delle Emozioni" by Gioia Lomasti, and under her editorial supervision, author Emanuele Marcuccio returns with a second collection of aphorisms titled "Wonder and Amazement," featuring eighty-eight entries of aphorisms and thoughts, where the central theme remains poetry.
Wonder and Amazement, Aphorisms and Thoughts Editors: Gioia Lomasti and Marcello Lombardo, Preface: Lorenzo Spurio, Afterword: Lucia Bonanni, Publisher: Youcanprint, Lecce, 2024
The book «Wonder and Amazement. Aphorisms and Thoughts» has been published as a collection by the Italian poet and aphorist Emanuele Marcuccio, with texts written between 2012 and 2018. It was edited by poet and writer Gioia Lomasti, designed by graphic artist Marcello Lombardo, and published by Youcanprint (Lecce, Italy).
The book opens with a preface by the Italian poet, literary critic, and writer Lorenzo Spurio, followed by an editorial note by Gioia Lomasti. The main body contains eighty-eight entries of thoughts and aphorisms, where poetry remains the dominant theme. The book concludes with an afterword essay titled "With Wonder and Amazement: An Approach to Emanuele Marcuccio’s Aphoristic Writing" by the late Italian poet, literary critic, and essayist Lucia Bonanni (1951–2024), to whom the author dedicates the book.
An "Appendix" includes an introductory essay by the author himself on the poetry project "Dipthycha," conceived and curated by Marcuccio, which so far features four anthological volumes (2013–2022) involving contributions from forty-two contemporary Italian poetic voices.
«This collection of aphorisms and thoughts – as the subtitle suggests – gathers creative fragments penned by the author over six years, from 2012 to 2018. It can be viewed as a natural continuation of the first phase of aphorisms compiled in the previous publication "Minimal Thoughts and Maxims" (2012). The new work begins with a suggestive and mysterious introductory note inspired by Lorca, invoking the concept of "amazement" that Marcuccio adopts throughout the book. Amazement emerges from human participation through observation – not only visual but also internal and emotional – and passionate listening, linking the author to the object (and mystery) of his attention.» (From the Preface by Lorenzo Spurio)
«[Each] aphorism is like a pearl of wisdom capable of leaving a deep impression on the reader. These texts are rich in understanding of the human soul and can address complex and universal thoughts in just a few moments of reading.» (Gioia Lomasti)
«The historical reality of Marcuccio’s entire body of work reveals a broad, organized, and finely structured range of content, always driven by a genuine love for literature, where each produced text "remains a cherished creation" (from Aphorism No. 62), much like an individual needing the freedom to be read and recognized by readers as their own. Yet, in intellectual honesty, "[an author] is never satisfied with what they have written" (from Thought No. 66) because, if they were, they would stop writing.» (From the Afterword by Lucia Bonanni).
