Humans, by nature, are emotional beings. God has blessed us by creating us in the best of forms, harmoniously emotional and rational. Within our bodies, God has given us hearts that can often dominate and control, sometimes overpoweringly so. It's said that the greatest wisdom about the heart is, "Those whose hearts rule over their intellects are truly successful."
This small organ situated in the chest, attributed with all our feelings, emotions, and spiritual fluctuations, is marvelously anchored by its Creator. Yet, it remains fluid, transmitting various sensations and feelings to the mind and soul without being anchored itself.
Countless long-standing relationships have abruptly ended due to the changing nature of hearts, and enduring enmities have turned into strong, resilient friendships because of the same reason.
The heart's constant flux is evident in the Prophet's (Peace be upon him) prayer: "O Turner of the hearts, stabilize my heart upon Your religion." This prayer acknowledges the heart's inherent propensity to change over which we have no control.
Humans are largely driven by emotions, constantly changing with time and fluctuating circumstances. There's no guarantee, authority, or absolute power over them. They don't adhere to fixed or variable laws, adjusting according to our desires, shifts in our state, and how they transition.
Reflect upon your childhood friends or university companions or early career colleagues. How many were there? And how many remain?
It's not a flaw in us or in others; it's the nature of hearts.
We have all experienced different relations, felt negative emotions at times and positive ones at other times. We've changed, and so have the people around us. Our affections and inclinations have varied, leading us to connect with different individuals at different times. Relationships, due to countless reasons ranging from personal differences, culture, commitment levels, forgetfulness, or irreparable rifts, sometimes fade into oblivion.
We, as humans, are in a state of continuous evolution, with our thoughts, feelings, and desires transforming over time. This implies that the emotions we experience today may not necessarily remain the same tomorrow.
Feelings form the core of our human experience. They are the driving forces influencing our behaviors and steering our lives.
However, the emotions in our hearts are fleeting and unpredictable. They remain susceptible to external influences and surrounding conditions. Never assume that you have total control over your emotions, no matter how strong-willed you believe you are. Emotions are an inherent part of genuine human life; we're not emotionless robots. Various factors and events can affect our moods and feelings, from happiness, sorrow, anger, fear, to stress.
In conclusion, emotions in our hearts are just a facet of our intricate human nature. Some might manage them better than others, but no one can guarantee their perennial stability. Thus, beware of the fickleness of hearts.
