Human fate is not separate from others. Our days flow connected with other people’s lives. Our decisions, everyday actions and deeds directly or indirectly affect others.
We live together as humans in a community big or small. Whenever we face a calamity or hardship we call for help. We cannot, in most of the times, handle tough situations on our own. There is always a person who is ready to help others. He/she is always willing to sacrifice and proceed with help; a saviour who gives a hand with a big soothing smile assuring us that everything would be OK.
Life goes on and one day this very person falls a victim of distress himself. Life defeats him and he finds himself on the ground calling for help for he cannot pull himself up on his own. He looks around him yet everyone is busy managing their own business. He looks at them with a tear in his eye and a lump in the throat but all his calls are to no avail. He is shocked and bitter. Frustration fills his heart and he shakes his head in denial: “Somebody help, please!”
Overwhelmed by conflicting thoughts he is torn between good and evil. The voice of goodness gives him excuses to forgive those whom he once defended and saved. “Maybe they are weak. Maybe it’s out of fear. They feel for you but they might be helpless. Otherwise, they could have stood up for themselves before. Don’t judge their abandonment. You never know what prevents them from answering your call.”
A bitter voice whispers” They let you down. They are hypocrites. They are not true friends. What you thought was friendship was mere pretence. They are fake. Don’t you ever speak to them again! Their reality is unveiled. This is their ugly face of selfishness. You mean nothing to them.”
A battle takes place in the mind and soul of a person in distress. He is vulnerable and weak. When he once did good, he did it for goodness sake. He did not ask for anything in return simply because he did not expect to fall in a pit himself one day. This person had expectations but was betrayed for no known reasons. Whether he accepts excuses from a good intention or is full of grudge by bad thoughts, the question remains: Is it mere human weakness or was he deceived?!
