The dirt-streaked, clenched hands stretched out, racing with eagerness, concentrating all the nerves of the body into a fist.
At the edge of the grip, the meeting of the hunched shoulders made the hands grasp the void, dangling in the air.
The eyes no longer saw the apple that once focused all gazes on a single point.
A hand gripped it, the clenched fingers worming their way between the spaces of the hand holding the apple.
They tried to pull the fingers off; the hand tightened in eagerness, hands piled onto the hand...
The hand slipped downwards, the hands touched the apple, they piled on top of the hand until it was underneath them...
The voice of a huge body emerging from the darkness pierced through them.
"What's the news?"
A childlike joy overcame him, making him lift the apple, pointing to his chest.
"I found it. It's mine."
The giant grabbed it, stared at them, their eyes faltered. Defiantly, he raised it on the palm of his hand...
Their eyes dimmed further; he circled it around their noses, their chins stuck to their throats...
The apple stopped near his nose; its weight seemed to lessen, his eyes sparkled...
His hand stretched out eagerly to take the apple, but the giant pulled his hand back and tossed the apple between his jaws.
