When people talk about love, they often refer to romantic and emotional relationships, but love goes beyond this framework to encompass several aspects, including self-love, love for others, and love for the entire world. At the top of these aspects is love for God Almighty.
A servant's love for their Lord makes them delight in worship. A lover is obedient to their beloved, so worship becomes a pleasure. Without love, a person feels that worship is a mere servitude and a movement of the body without any spiritual enjoyment or sweetness.
Lady Rabi'a al-Adawiyya did not worship God out of fear of His fire or longing for His paradise. Instead, she worshiped God Almighty out of love for His essence. She delighted in worshiping God and nourished her soul with the beauty of God's love.
In the various paths of life, love can be considered the origin of all things, as it drives a person to work towards goodness and positivity in the world. When a person loves themselves and cares for their health and happiness, they will work to improve the quality of their life and the lives of those around them.
A person then strives for success in their life because of their love for themselves and their desire to achieve happiness first before thinking about making others happy. If they make others happy at the expense of themselves, self-love turns into self-burning, which causes them to always feel unsatisfied or unaccepted.
Love is the fundamental element that makes life worth living. Without it, happiness, accomplishments, or progress cannot be achieved.
Love, in its essence, is a gift from God to humans, planted in their hearts towards others. It is unclear why a person is attracted to someone or repulsed by another. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) clarified this matter when he spoke about his wives and how he treated them equally in life, except that he loved Lady Aisha more than his other wives. Therefore, he said, "O Allah, this is my division concerning what I possess, so do not blame me for what You possess and I do not possess" - meaning the heart.
Love is the most inspiring force and the basis for everything in life. It is a renewable power that connects people and motivates them to give and sacrifice. It possesses the ability to heal and change.
In fact, we can say that love is the origin of all things and the fundamental key to achieving happiness and peaceful coexistence.
Love extends to every aspect of life, as it is the primary motivator for human relationships. Without love, friendship cannot be achieved, families cannot be built, and great accomplishments cannot be realized.
Love promotes cooperation and understanding and can unite people through strong emotional bonds. Love also gives meaning and purpose to life and forms the core of our values and beliefs.
Thus, I see love as both the end and the means. It is the ultimate goal that a person strives to achieve and establish in relationships with people and things around them. Love is the means through which it is achieved. Love is not complete without love; understanding does not happen without love; success in one's work does not occur without love for the work; a soulmate is not found without love, and proper worship of one's Lord is not achieved without love. Love is both the ailment and the remedy. A life without love is a life without meaning or value, like the life of cattle, if not more misguided.
