International Women’s Day: Celebrating Progress, Empowering the Future

The History of International Women’s Day

The first National Women’s Day was observed in the United States on February 28, 1909, following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. By March 8, 1911, the first official International Women’s Day was marked in countries such as Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland, where women rallied for the right to vote and work without discrimination. Over time, the movement grew, and in 1977, the United Nations officially recognized March 8th as International Women’s Day, reinforcing its significance on a global scale.
