With a cheerful old dust off

Crosses the fence like sneezing.

Poetess Ms. Lee Hae-kyung, hailing from Korea, the Land of Morning Calm,  is also active as an essayist and literary critic. She is the CEO and publisher of the newspaper and publishing company, Culture & People News Co., Ltd. Her works include the essay collection ‘Beautiful Life’, the poetry collections ‘The Rose Shop’, ‘Poetry Becomes a Masterpiece’, and ‘A Korean-English Poetry Selection Toward Globalization’. She also writes novels, with works such as Future Novel, among many other collaborative publications.

The Green Alley

An acquaintance in a babbling alley

With a cheerful old dust off

Crosses the fence like sneezing.

From a deep place,

The persimmon tree, having raised memories, opens the leaves

And the tossing an’ turning squash leaves, riding on a crooked cane

Eat the young wind.

In the yard of the paulownia tree house,

The sound of attaching wedding invitations rides on the ridge of a roof

And a red-faced cherry tree

Twists its waist with a green skirt on.

초록이 오는 골목

옹잘대는 골목의 안부가

묵은 먼지를 명량하게 털며

재채기하듯 담장을 넘는다

깊은 곳에서

추억을 끌어올린 감나무가 잎을 열고

뒤척이던 호박잎들이 꼬부라진 지팡이를 타며

젊은 바람을 먹는다.

오동나무집 마당에는

청첩장 붙이는 소리 용마루를 타고

얼굴 붉어진 앵두나무

초록 치마입고 허리를 비튼다.

무겁게 달라붙어 있던 먼지들

와르르 숨을 토해내며 초록에 밀려 나간다.
