The Friends of Arthritis Patients, an organisation affiliated with the Health Promotion Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, is set to host its eleventh annual marathon on 25th February, under the slogan “Movement is Life”.
The event aims to promote community awareness of health, community and humanitarian activities, and highlight the impact of arthritis, while supporting patients who face daily challenges.
The annual marathon is organised in strategic partnership with several organisations, including the Sharjah Police General Command, Sharjah Sports Council, Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, Sharjah Tourism and Commerce Development Authority, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Media City “Shams”, Al Bataeh Municipality, Emirates Red Crescent, Sharjah Cooperative, and Fast Building Contracting LLC.
The marathon will feature various events, including rowing and kayaking in cooperation with the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, free consultations and examinations for the public, competitions, and valuable prizes. Entertainment shows, such as face painting, karate, and tennis, will also be available for children.
The marathon is divided into five stages based on the participants' ages and physical abilities. The first stage is a 1-kilometre walking distance allocated to participants aged 0-99 years. The second stage is a 1-kilometre running distance designated for participants aged 8 years and above. The third stage is a 3.5-kilometre running distance designated for participants aged 13 years and above. The fourth stage is a 10-kilometre running distance designated for participants aged 15 years and above. The final stage is a 20-kilometre run designated for participants aged 16 years and above.
At the conclusion of the marathon, winners in the various stages of the race will be honoured, and financial rewards will be offered to the first places. Additionally, a scientific day will be organised with the participation of an elite group of rheumatologists, nutritionists, health specialists, and athletes.
The 11th marathon is expected to witness broad participation from members of the community and achieve success as one of the most essential health awareness activities for arthritis at the state level.
