The collaborative exhibition between the two art campuses held in Egypt on 8-11 January 2024 involved seven international artists and was held at Ahmed Basyoni Gallery, Helwan University, in Cairo City, Egypt. The collaboration consists of master’s students from the Faculty of Fine Arts ITB and members of the Faculty of Arts Education at Helwan University. The artists from Helwan University are Ahrar Thamer Alshammeri (Kuwait), Hagar Rahab Mohamed and Rehab Haroun from Egypt.
The opening of the exhibition was held on 8 January 2024 at 14.00 Egyptian time. It was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts Education at Helwan University, DR. Nabil Abdulsallam, Deputy Ambassador Diah Mohamad Zain Nasution, Cultural Counsellor Prof. Bambang Suryadi, Ph.D., and one of the ITB fine arts lecturers Dikdik Sayahdikumullah, Ph.D. The exhibition was officially opened, starting with a brief speech by DR. Nabil Abdulsallam, followed by a red ribbon-cutting procession in front of the Ahmed Basyoni Gallery door. This exhibition supported by Papatong Artspace, bank BRI, Pelindo, and Bank BJB
The exhibiting artists presented the characteristics of the works from each institution with different backgrounds and cultures. In addition, there are differences in the teaching methods used by each campus. In addition, both participating countries have a history of colonialism experienced in the past. Therefore, the art that develops in each country has similar roots.
The seven artists involved insert symbols in each work that have been elaborated with the theories and concepts they have built. Then, they turn it into a philosophical metaphor. There is also another interesting similarity in each concept where they tend to explore the true soul to achieve inner peace. Thus, the work they create when it becomes a work of art as an inner communication of the artist’s spirit rooted through the dramatic experience of daily life becomes an aesthetic experience that can be conveyed.
‘Tales Beyond Border’ specifically highlights the role and work of artists who significantly bring about the renewal of experience and knowledge. From this exhibition, we learn that diversity is important to foster a sense of tolerance for every difference between cultures and mindsets in order to guide the creation process in this era of globalization as a bridge to record history in the field of contemporary art.
