Lausanne Tourism is pleased with the continuous growth of tourism in 2017. For the first time, overnight stays in Lausanne welcomed a record 1,227,800s international guests, an increase of 2% since 2016 which indicates 11,444 registered nights more than during the year of the Expo64.
Known as the Olympic Capital, Lausanne is a city that continues to strive for excellence. From introducing new reliable transportations, marketing strategies and attracting international recognition, it has earned its spotlight for 2017.
Studies proved that 2.64% of the total market share of tourists were from the Middle East, a figure that is anticipated to increase in the year 2018. Most noteworthy, majority of travellers were from Switzerland and France who comprise of 42.57% and 10.91% of the total market share respectively. The spokesperson also reported a phenomenal 79% increase in travellers from Thailand, a 5.3% increase from the USA and 23.67% from China.
The Director of Lausanne Tourisme, Steeve Pasche commented: “The figures are a clear reflection of Lausanne’s appeal as a tourist destination. It has attained the image of a dynamic, international travel destination, offering an endless range of recreational and cultural attractions. I believe this trend will continue in the upcoming years. Not only does this put the country on track for significant growth in the tourism sector, but it will also help to stabilize the country’s economy.”
“With 2018 going by quicker than anticipated, I am more confident that Lausanne’s tourism sector will prevail. We look forward to maximizing the social and economic benefits of tourism by bringing out the city’s potential and promoting it to increasingly serve as an idyllic tourist destination or hub for international companies to invest in,” concluded Pasche.
