Damith Ratnesekera of Bab Al Qasr Hotel has proved he is second to noon, scooping the prestigious gold medal for Open showpiece award at the highly anticipated In SIAL Middle East 2017 culinary exhibition.
The artist par excellence’s abilities to produce elaborate and exquisite cake structures, decorations and ice carvings have been at the receiving end of praise and critical acclaim. The carving connoisseur is also responsible for the unique fruit and vegetable arrangements, Styrofoam creations, and holiday set ups that have become star attractions at the hotel. Damith’s inspiring statue of an elephant with Indian native figurines presented at SIAL 2017 was the production that won him the top accolade.

Damith who is working as the Kitchen Artist at Bab Al Qasr Hotel, is certified in art & sculpture, and pulled sugar & isomaltose sculpture expert. Spanning over 13 years, the connoisseur has built his experience and acumen with some of the top names in the hospitality industry including The Ritz Carlton, Beach Rotana, Hilton and Atlantis the Palm. He cemented his position as one of the top kitchen artists of the UAE following his winning of multiple awards three years in a row, at the Emirates Saloon Culinary Exhibition.
Commenting on his win, Damith said, “Kitchen artistry, its rituals, and traditions are so unique and relevant in the UAE.
