China witnessed a bizarre incident, where a man was sentenced to 6 months in prison for scaring 1,100 chickens to death in a dispute with his neighbor.
The strange case began in April last year when the man, surnamed Guo, felt upset because his neighbor, surnamed Zhong, cut down his trees without notifying him. In response, Guo, from Hengyang County in Hunan Province, south-central China, sneaked into Mr. Zhong's chicken farm at night on several occasions.
It was unclear what Guo's intention was, but the court in Hengjiang County heard that on one of the nights, the man used a flashlight to scare the chickens.
This caused the birds to huddle in a corner, resulting in the crushing of 460 of them to death. Guo was caught and forced to pay Zhong $440 in compensation.
This decision made Guo even angrier, leading him to return to Zhong's farm again to repeat his actions, which this time led to the death of 640 chickens.
Chinese authorities said that 1,100 chickens died as a result of his actions. The court stated that Guo's actions were deliberate and sentenced him to 6 months in prison with one year of probation, taking into consideration that the man expressed regret for his behavior.
