Turkmenistan and Afghanistan to begin implementation of joint railway project

An agreement has been reached on providing land to Turkmenistan for the expansion of a joint railway during negotiations between the Head of the Afghanistan Railway Department (ARA) and the Ambassador of Turkmenistan in Kabul, Orient.tm reports.

The Head of the railway department of the Taliban government, Baht-ur-Rahman Sharafat, discussed with Hoja Ovezov, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Afghanistan the issue of transferring land for the implementation of a joint railway project, as reported by ARA.

According to the information, the railway management of Afghanistan will provide land to Turkmenistan to initiate practical work on the construction of canopies and new tracks on the transit route “Herat-Turgundi.”

The report states that a commission has been sent to the province of Herat in western Afghanistan to determine the site.

Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, leading the Turkmen delegation, made a working trip to Afghanistan on December 16-17, where he discussed with relevant leaders the status of the implementation of TAPI and TAP projects, as well as issues related to the expansion of Afghanistan’s railway infrastructure.

During the visit to Turgundi in the north of Herat, Meredov visited the construction site of the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan railway line.
