The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has announced the addition of Al Rayaheen Retreat in Khorfakkan to the Sharjah Collection, during its participation at Arabian Travel Market 2025.
Developed in collaboration with the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, Al Rayaheen Retreat is undergoing final restoration works, set for completion by the end of Q2.
The project enhances the site's cultural and architectural value, aligning with Sharjah’s approach to heritage preservation and sustainable tourism.
Located in Freej Al Rayhan, the retreat includes 20 restored heritage homes. The largest, once owned by the Al Mushtagal family, now houses a restaurant, lounge and mini museum. Accommodation ranges from one- to four-bedroom units, each featuring traditional courtyards and native trees. Activities include kayaking, watersports, fishing and guided heritage tours.
The retreat’s name refers to the basil plant (Rayhan), once widespread in the area. The project was initiated under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and follows UNESCO-aligned restoration standards.
Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, CEO of Shurooq, said the addition supports the emirate’s strategy to diversify its tourism landscape through sustainable, culturally rooted luxury hospitality. He noted that Shurooq manages all Sharjah Collection properties and described the retreat as a model for heritage-based tourism that preserves collective memory.
Shurooq also announced progress on Nomad, a new eco-retreat in Kalba featuring 20 solar-powered luxury trailers integrated into the natural landscape. The launch is planned for Q3 2025.
At ATM 2025, Shurooq presented updates on several projects including Moon Retreat, Najd Al Meqsar, Al Faya Retreat, Kingfisher Retreat and Al Badayer Retreat. These destinations offer unique experiences rooted in Sharjah’s natural heritage, with cuisine by Michelin-starred chefs and a focus on sustainability.
Shurooq also announced the rebranding of LUX* Al Jabal to LUX* Khorfakkan, developed with The Lux Collective. Opening in Q4 2025, the resort will include 45 eco-designed units between Khorfakkan and Luluya. LUX* Al Bridi, near Sharjah Safari, is set to open in Q1 2026 with 35 luxury tents in a 784-hectare reserve.
Shurooq spotlighted Mleiha National Park, a 34.2-square-kilometre destination that integrates archaeology, ecology and recreation. As part of the exhibit, it unveiled Mleiha: Ancient Treasures of the UAE, a new visual book produced with Assouline. The book is now on display at the Shurooq pavilion.
