MoEI to highlight UAE’s efforts to achieve energy transition, climate neutrality at WFES 2024

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) will participate in the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2024, to be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from April 16th to 18th. During its participation, the Ministry plans to highlight the UAE’s achievements in the clean energy transition and its efforts to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, said, “The Summit offers a real opportunity to drive international cooperation in the clean energy sector to help build an ecosystem for sustainable, affordable energy supply, in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Our participation in WFES well serves our endeavours to exchange knowledge and experiences with like-minded countries as we strive to diversify our energy sources and achieve climate neutrality.”

He added, “The UAE is a pioneer in adopting the latest clean energy technologies and practices. In 2023, it updates its UAE Energy Strategy 2050 to increase the share of clean energy in the energy mix. The strategy seeks to increase individual and institutional energy consumption efficiency by 42-45% by 2030, compared to 2019, triple the share of renewable energy by 2030, increase the installed clean energy capacity from 14.2 GW to 19.8 GW by 2030, and surge the share of installed clean energy capacity in the total energy mix to 30% by 2030 to ensure the country is on track to achieve its climate change mitigation goals.

“The UAE also launched the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050 as a long-term plan to strengthen the UAE’s position as a producer and supplier of low-emission hydrogen by 2031 through the development of supply chains and the establishment of hydrogen oases and a dedicated national research and development centre for hydrogen technologies. The strategy calls for the production of 15 million tons of low-emission hydrogen per annum.”

Al Olama noted that the UAE, as a forward-looking nation, takes confident steps to build a sustainable future for the next generations.
