Astana proposes to establish a fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) along the route Russia – Kazakhstan – Iran, according to a statement made by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during an expanded meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

According to him, Kazakhstan advocates for the comprehensive development of cooperation among the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in the field of information technology.

“In this context, we propose to consider the possibility of constructing a fiber-optic communication line along the route Russia – Kazakhstan – Iran to connect to existing international lines along the coast of the Indian Ocean,” stated Tokayev.

The President of Kazakhstan emphasized that this step would not only create an alternative transit traffic route in the Eurasian space but would also significantly strengthen the EAEU’s positions in global data logistics.

Earlier, President Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan would cooperate with Russia despite the disruptions in the world.
