Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) met with Daniel Carden, UK Member of Parliament (MP) and President of the Forum of Young Parliamentarians at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and Cynthia López, President of the IPU's Bureau of Women Parliamentarians, on the sidelines of the parliamentary meeting and the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28), which is being hosted at Expo City Dubai.
During the meeting, the FNC Speaker highlighted the pivotal role that parliaments play in bringing nations of the world closer to build a better tomorrow, noting that the IPU has, now more than ever, become very important to the conversation, given its role in tackling the world's problems and driving efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Ghobash stressed the significance of efforts made by young and women parliamentarians in the IPU's work across various issues, in addition to helping identify global best practices.
In turn, Carden and López underscored the FNC's growing role in the IPU, as it provides valuable recommendations and initiatives on various topics.
They also highlighted the UAE's success in hosting the parliamentary meeting and COP28, as well as the announcements and pledges made by the UAE to combat climate change and drive sustainable development.
Several FNC members attended the meeting.
