ICAO Conference highlights key role of sustainable aviation: Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency

Tiago Sousa Pereira, Director of the Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), affirmed his country's commitment to transitioning towards sustainable aviation and using alternative fuels as part of measures and initiatives launched by Brazil to tackle climate change.

In his statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of the third day of the third International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3), Pereira said that the conference is an excellent opportunity for aviation ministers and sector stakeholders to “combat this global issue, and reduce carbon emissions that harm the Earth and negatively affect the environment.”

He then pointed out that his country's government was among the first to announce a policy to reduce carbon emissions in the aviation sector through a strategic vision titled “Fuel of the Future", which involves shifting energy usage towards clean and renewable sources, not only domestically but also by exporting these technologies to the rest of the world, by utilising alternative fuels that are more efficient and environmentally-friendly.

He also announced the participation of a high-level government delegation from Brazil in the discussions of the COP28 climate summit, which is scheduled to take place in the UAE in around a week at Expo City Dubai.

Sousa Pereira concluded by calling on participating countries to unite to urgently develop solutions to combat climate change, affecting all sectors, including the aviation industry.
