"Conflicting Numbers in Turkish Election: Second Round Likely as 30% of Ballot Boxes Await Counting"

In brief remarks, Ahmed Yanar, the head of the Higher Election Board in Turkey, stated a little while ago that the boxes that have been sorted so far at 11:30 local time reached 69.12%, which contradicts what different satellite channels are broadcasting. On the other hand, for the first time since the announcement of unofficial results, Anadolu News Agency admits that the votes received by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have decreased and have become less than 50%, which means practically and until the official results are announced, Turkey is heading for the second round. In contrast, the Republican People's Party claimed that Kemal Kilicdaroglu obtained 49.10%, and Recep Tayyip Erdogan 44.95%.

Sinan Ogan, the presidential candidate for the Grandfathers' Coalition, hard-right nationalist, who got 5.6%, announced that there is a high probability of going to a second round. He added in a press conference, "The Turkish nationalists and Kemalists are the key to these elections. There must be many lessons that can be learned from this political picture by those who attacked us in the past two days after Muharrem İnce was excluded from the elections due to various pressures and unfairly accusing us", referring to the shameful videos that targeted Ince. Ogan confirmed that any result would be good for the Turkish people.

According to information circulated by social media platforms, Election Day witnessed a high turnout exceeding 86%, where long queues of citizens were recorded outside polling stations in major Turkish cities, and it was expected to break the record turnout for the previous parliamentary and presidential elections, which recorded a record rate of 88.18%.

As for the latest number of seats that the parties obtained, the People's Alliance, led by the Justice and Development Party, topped with 319 seats, with a rate of 50.04%, after counting 87% of the votes. The opposition Nation Alliance, led by the secular Republican People's Party, came in second with 221 seats, with a rate of 38%. In third place, the Freedom Alliance, led by the Green Kurdish Left Party, got 60 seats, with a rate of 9.98%.
