Tourists from the GCC Account for 80% of the Total $50 Billion Spent by Middle East’s Travellers

In the upcoming year, the Arab sector will focus on boosting tourism in Morocco by stimulating an influx of tourists and travellers from the GCC region and the Middle East to the Northern African country.

To implement the strategy, the Morocco National Tourist Office for the Middle East and Asia, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with Nirvana Travel & Tourism launched a workshop in Marrakech, Morocco for delegations comprising of more than 100 travel companies to promote tourism in Morocco within the Arab communities. It was reported that inter-Arab tourism would attract more than 93.3 million tourists by the end of 2023. The regional travel and tourism sector collected a revenue of $191 billion with tourists coming to the Arab region spending a whopping $76 billion.

Abu Dhabi tourism specialist Alaa Khalifa said delegations from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman will participate at the workshop to benefit from the opportunities in Morocco.

He said, “Arab tourists spend approximately $50 Billion a year abroad and GCC region accounts for about 80% of this expenditure. We see low expenditure from the other Arab countries due to a lack of promotion in these countries and ineffective cooperation”.

“It would be extremely beneficial for Morocco to focus on marketing its experiences and offerings consistently among all Middle Eastern countries order to develop its tourism and travel sector by increasing the number of visitors from the region. Participating in exhibitions and tourism events would contribute to effective promotion.”

Mrs. Rahma Loroussi, Director of Marketing at the Morocco National Tourist Office for the Middle East and Asia said, “The workshop attracted travel companies and leading market experts who conducted events to encourage Gulf travellers and tourists to discover the enriching culture and landmarks of Morocco. I expect to see a remarkable growth in the number of visitors from the Gulf countries to Morocco in the upcoming year.”

“The Welcome to Morocco campaign designed to develop tourism in Morocco will now enter its second phase of introducing and promoting the tourist destinations of Morocco to the GCC and the Middle East. It will also include forging partnerships and agreements with travel agencies and companies in the UAE and the GCC,” she concluded.
