Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi chairs Sharjah Media Council meeting

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Media Council, chaired the council’s meeting, held on Wednesday, at Sharjah Classic Cars Museum. At the beginning of the meeting, the Council extended thanks and appreciation to H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for issuing the decree restructuring the Council, H.H.’s trust and constant interest in the media sector in Sharjah, and his continued support for all initiatives and programmes launched by Sharjah Media Council and related institutions.

During the meeting, the Council discussed a number of topics related to the media sector in the Emirate of Sharjah, and reviewed the reports of the entities affiliated with Sharjah Media Council, their most prominent achievements during the previous period, and their future plans.

The Council reviewed the operational report on photography permits during the first half of 2024, which dealt with the types of permits issued for ground and aerial photography, amounting to 67 permits, in addition to the classification of permits according to topics, geographical distribution, and the most requested locations at the level of cities and regions of the Emirate of Sharjah.

The Council reviewed the report of Sharjah Broadcast Authority (SBA), during the first half of the current year, in which it touched on participation in foreign exhibitions and international conferences and the awards won by the Authority, including: the New York Film Festival Award, the Accolade International Film Award, in addition to organising festivals, charitable community initiatives, and workshops such as Heart and Eye Operations Campaign, in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Al Wusta Camel Festival, and the Future Media Course.

The Authority’s report also addressed the most prominent statistics and interaction on digital platforms, social media, and the “Maraya” platform, whose number of users reached 21.6 million users, in addition to the rate of jobs’ localisation at the authority level.

The Council reviewed the report of Sharjah Government Media Office, the work of the 13th session of the International Government Communication Forum, which will be launched next September over the course of two days under the slogan “Flexible Governments... Innovative Communication”.

The forum will focus, in its five main axes, on the tourism and economic sectors, hosting an elite group of senior officials, decision-makers and experts from different countries of the world to discuss the effectiveness of innovative government communication in achieving flexible government policies and goals.

The office’s report addressed the results of the media monitoring of the Heart and Eye Operations campaign in Aswan Governorate and its media coverage at the level of the authorities in Egypt in particular, in addition to the most prominent future events and exhibitions that will be organised by the office during the coming period.

The meeting reviewed the third quarter report of Sharjah Media City (Shams), which tackled the most prominent business developments and results achieved by the city during the last period and its efforts to attract companies specialised in the field of cinematic films and artistic production.

The report also highlighted the future plans and media projects developed by Shams to develop its services with the aim of providing an ideal environment for doing business in the city, which is reflected in the growth of commercial activities and business licences.

Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council toured Sharjah Classic Cars Museum, learning about the museum’s content of old cars and their various types. H.H. learned about the history and updates of cars, which extend from 1915 to 1987, and the mechanism for obtaining them and bringing them to the museum.

He listened to the most prominent specifications of cars and how to renew and maintain their bodies. The museum includes 94 cars of different categories, ranging from small cars, four-wheel drive cars, heavy vehicles, and royal cars, in addition to motorcycles, bicycles, and models of old fuel pumps. The museum also offers visitors introductory workshops on old cars.
