Emirates Park Zoo and Resort introduces the latest addition to its wonderful range of residents at the zoo as the summer season comes to an end. The fourteen-year-old Mandrillus sphinx (Mandrill) joins the Primate Parade team in welcoming each visitor in the zoo.
Coming from the radiant country of Spain, the male mandrill named Juneijo enjoys snacking on fruits, grains and nuts to cater to his big appetite. For his past time, he playfully roams around the confines of his home and occasionally takes naps up the branches. His red-striped looks and yellow beard serves as a charmer which distinguishes him from the rest of his primate cousins. Juneijo joins the zoo as the partner of Dora, the zoo’s nine-year-old mandrill resident.
Dr. Waleed Sha’aban, Emirates Park Resort’s Zoo Operations Manager, said “Juneijo brings so much joy to our Primate Parade. He delights in socializing and cheerfully interacting with visitors in the best way that he can. A born leader, he also shows exemplary strength and natural protectiveness for his partner Dora.”
Often found in Southern Cameroon and Congo in Africa mandrills are considered to be the largest of all monkeys in the world. They are also known to be the most diverse type of monkey, being able to live near bodies of water in tropical rainforests and having a wide food options to choose from.
