In a new achievement that adds to his distinguished professional and humanitarian record, Professor Abdallah Raweh was awarded the “Certificate of Merit in Medicine” by the Leone d’Oro Committee, part of the Gran Premio Internazionale di Venezia (International Grand Prize of Venice), during an official ceremony held at the Regione Veneto Palace in the Italian city of Venice.
The certificate – registered under protocol number 41774 dated March 30, 2025 – acknowledged Professor Raweh’s contributions in the fields of cardiac surgery and preventive medicine, as well as his involvement in conducting thousands of charitable surgeries, his scientific research, his efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the establishment of advanced medical centers across Europe and the Middle East, most recently the Gemelli Health Solutions Center in Dubai.
The committee also officially announced Professor Raweh’s nomination for the Leone d’Oro in the Medicine and Cardiothoracic Surgery category for the year 2025, recognizing his scientific leadership and his role in integrating medical innovation with humanitarian responsibility. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place during the upcoming edition of the Venice International Art and Cinema Exhibition, one of Italy’s most prestigious cultural events.
Abdallah Raweh stated:
“This recognition is not only for me personally, but for the message of medicine — a message that unites people and plants hope. I dedicate it to every medical team that puts human life first, and to every patient who entrusted us with their care.”
It is worth noting that the Leone d’Oro (Golden Lion) is one of Italy’s most prestigious awards, granted annually to outstanding individuals who have made a significant impact in the fields of culture, arts, science, and medicine. Its emblem — the Lion of Saint Mark — has been a symbol of Venice since the 9th century.
On this occasion, Lorenzo Fanara, the Italian Ambassador to the UAE, congratulated Professor Raweh, affirming that this honor reflects the strength of scientific and cultural ties between Italy and the United Arab Emirates, and enhances collaboration in the fields of medical research and innovation between the two nations.
